Gulf Shores Area Events

Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures most of the year mean that any time's a good time for a celebration in Gulf Shores. Two of the best-known festivals celebrate the local shrimping industry and the talent of area musicians.

More than 300 vendors offering arts, crafts, clothing, jewelry, and other retail goods make the National Shrimp Festival one of the nation's most exciting outdoor events. The four-day festival celebrates its 37th year this October.

The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, held each November at various spots in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and other nearby communities, offers 10 days of live musical entertainment. It's named for the late Frank Brown, a music fan who worked as night watchman at the legendary Flora-Bama Lounge for 28 years. The festival was founded as a venue for aspiring writers and musicians to showcase their work.

The city also celebrates the Fourth of July with a fireworks display, and ushers in the holiday season with a Christmas tree lighting and open house.

And there are plenty of other special events scheduled year-round - concerts, theater and dance performances, wine tastings, food festivals, arts and crafts shows - even a rodeo. Check out our calendar of events for an up-to-date list of what's going on while you're in town.

Shindig on the Sand

SummerTide Presents Ring of Fire

When: June 5 - July 3, 2015
Where: George C. Meyer Performing Arts Center
Inspired by the life and lyrics of Johnny Cash, Ring of Fire brings universal stories of love, home and family to the stage. The revue features over two dozen songs by Cash including, “I Walk the Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and of course the title song, “Ring of Fire.”

Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo

When: June 12 - 14, 2015

The Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo is the "Every Mans" fishing rodeo! Just like the Lounge you don't have to be a VIP to fish with us. The inaugural tournament will be held June 12th – 14th, 2015 at the Flora-Bama Yacht Club across the street from The world famous Flora-Bama Lounge and Package Store. The FBFR is a 3-day Captains Choice tournament with anglers competing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in 30 categories including red snapper.

Sandstock

It's not Woodstock, it's Sandstock the Flora-Bama way. Come and hear great music, have good times and eat great food. Music is devoted to Sandstock style music in the Tent & starts at Noon. Customers are encouraged to dress up in hippie style threads & will receive free peace sign beads for dressing up while supplies last.
