Gulf Shores Area Events

Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures most of the year mean that any time's a good time for a celebration in Gulf Shores. Two of the best-known festivals celebrate the local shrimping industry and the talent of area musicians.

More than 300 vendors offering arts, crafts, clothing, jewelry, and other retail goods make the National Shrimp Festival one of the nation's most exciting outdoor events. The four-day festival celebrates its 37th year this October.

The Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, held each November at various spots in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and other nearby communities, offers 10 days of live musical entertainment. It's named for the late Frank Brown, a music fan who worked as night watchman at the legendary Flora-Bama Lounge for 28 years. The festival was founded as a venue for aspiring writers and musicians to showcase their work.

The city also celebrates the Fourth of July with a fireworks display, and ushers in the holiday season with a Christmas tree lighting and open house.

And there are plenty of other special events scheduled year-round - concerts, theater and dance performances, wine tastings, food festivals, arts and crafts shows - even a rodeo. Check out our calendar of events for an up-to-date list of what's going on while you're in town.

October - 2015

44th Annual National Shrimp Festival

Where: Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, 101 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, AL 36542
The 44th Annual National Shrimp Festival during this four-day event that attracts over 300,000 people. Musical entertainment featuring a lineup of national, regional and local acts including Blues, Motown, Southern Rock, Jazz, Zydeco and Country. The music begins at 10 a.m. each day and runs through 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Fall Garrison Living History Day

When: Oct 17, 2015 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Where: Fort Morgan, 51 Highway 180, Gulf Shores, AL 36542
Living historians and re-enactors gather at Fort Morgan for the continuation of the site's commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Artillery and infantry demonstrations will occur throughout the day.

Elberta German Sausage Festival

When: Oct 31, 2015 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Where: Elberta Town Park
Enjoy Elberta's famous German sausage festival and other German style foods. Nonstop entertainment for adults and children, and over 200 arts & crafts booths. Hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, ice cream, popcorn and peanuts will be available too. Carnival rides, polka, and German music will also be playing.

31st Annual Frank Brown International Songwriter's Festival

8th Annual Oyster Cook Off at The Hangout

this year’s Oyster Cook-off will bring together celebrity chefs from across the U.S. as well as a long list of well-known Gulf coast restaurateurs. Set for Nov.6-8, the event is presented by Alabama Gulf Seafood and hosted by The Hangout. Saturday is the Oyster Cook-off, Sunday Nov 8th Brunch & Bloody Mary's.

Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show

When: Nov 7, 2015 9:00 AM
Where: National Museum of Naval Aviation, 1750 Radford Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32508
Gate admission is free. Gates open at 8 am each day.The show begins at 9 am, with the Blue Angel Flight Demonstration Team scheduled to fly around 2 pm. There will be a Kids' Zone, virtual games and bungee jump for children of all ages.

Waterway Village Art Market

Local and regional artists will be displaying their original works of art, which will include paintings in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and mixed media. 2015 Kaiser Realty by Wyndham Vacation Rentals Coastal Half Marathon and 5K Run
