Get Certified to Boat in Florida
If your Florida vacation fun includes boating, here’s something you need to know. State law requires anyone born after January 1, 1988 operating a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more to pass a boating safety class and get a boating safety identification card from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. But not to worry — getting certified is as simple as signing up for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Boating Safety Class.
Cost of the class, to be held Saturday, June 30, at the Coast Guard Station Destin (2000 Miracle Strip Parkway), is $35. This includes the course, exam, safe boating identification card, lunch, a line handling and knots demonstration, and a tour of the station.
Students will learn about the different types of boats, boating law, boating safety equipment, navigation, handling emergencies, and trailering and storage.
Registration for the class begins at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 30. The class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required by June 27. To register, contact John Ryan at 623-980-8782 or ryanjohnj@hotmail.com.

Can I ask, where did that date come from? 1988 seems like a really random year. Was that just the year it was passed or…? Why is it okay for my dad to go out without a license and not me, even though I have more experience? Weird laws lol
