Storms and the Civil War destroyed the first three lighthouses built to mark the treacherous waters around Cape San Blas. The light in the current structure, the fourth, was first lit in June 1885. Today, visitors can climb to the top for a small fee. The adjacent keeper's cottage houses a museum and gift shop.
